viva la discotheque!!

today is my france-versary. exactly a year ago, i was embarking on a journey of a lifetime. i had no idea what to expect and all i had was my best friend kathryn and super heavy luggage to drag through the charles degaulle airport.

i remember my first day in france perfectly. in paris, we had an orientation and then we were given time to either nap or travel the city. so naturally, i spent the time wandering paris lead by our monitors. passing the notre dame and hotel de ville, it was an absolute dream. i took thousands of photos and immediately built a reputation for it. plus, i was perfecting my french to pierre yves, one of our french monitors, using him as a human dictionary for any words i may not know. we then stopped at a little café down the street from our hostel and i decided to get a “café au lait” thinking i might not love the normal french espressos and because it sounds even more elaborate than just an ordinary “café”.

oh man, i am just dying to get back there. hopefully one day soon! i am drowning my sorrows with julie and julia, one of my favorite films.

happy anniversary france! je t’aime!

so after a very long day out in the city with my family, i came home to a package addressed to me from RENNES, FRANCE.

blandine and capucine sent me a birthday package filled with heaps of goodies! i can’t believe blandine can still manage to spoil me from across the ocean!

inside the package was:

- an infinity scarf
- a quote book for wine lovers
- jewelry made by aunt sophie: bracelets and earrings
- a tee-shirt that reads: “quelqu’un peut me dire ou j’etais hier soir?”
(can someone tell me where i was last night?) ..since blandine loves reminding me of those early mornings when i would slink into the house after being out all night at the discotheque with my friends.
- a poster with collaged pictures of the family (blandine, capucine, carine, tatal, michel and of course aria) - that i will, of course, frame immediately and put up in my room

this is absolutely WAY TOO MUCH and beyond sweet and really shows how much they care.

i love them and miss them so much. i cannot believe how lucky i am to have two extremely loving families in this world. i admit that i haven’t been super pumped about my birthday this year, but this was exactly the pick-me-up that i needed and i know it’s going to be a fantastic week!

me posing with all of my gifts. ridiculous? yes. worth it? totally.

merci blandine et capucine! je vous aime et vous me manquez beaucoup!

hello everybody!

hope that everyone is doing well. it’s that time again to put in a little plug for my food blog: accidentally delicious

here’s some photos from some of my creations that i’ve made:

mini beef wellingtons

ratatouille’s ratatouille with wheat berries and goat cheese

black bean burgers with sweet potato fries and a golden beet/goat cheese salad

december 2nd is capucine’s 9th birthday! woo!
i’m so excited! sadly, i’ve been sick all week so i haven’t had a chance to pick out/mail her a gift so as a standby until that happens, i sent her this virtual card via dromadaire.
plus, i sent her and blandine some videos of me playing with the bloomington ukulele club. dorky? probably. do i mind? heck no.
i’m sick and i want my french mommy to be proud of my accomplishments this week.
